Reach For The Stars
Veteran Founded & Operated
Exploring the Universe to Inspire Those in it
To inspire and assist low-income individuals through astronomy, resources and food. We provide a safe, fun and educational environment for homeless individuals and the general community to get the help they need, food for their families, and to look to the stars during hard times.

Reach For The Stars serves to inspire people who have fallen on hard times. We are the only nonprofit in the world that uses both Astronomy and charity work to inspire, feed and uplift people during hard times by giving them free food, basic necessities & throwing monthly stargazing events. Oh, we also donate telescopes to kids! Take a moment to learn all about us by visiting the tabs in the menu. Visit our gift shop today.
Family Food Program
If you are struggling to pay for food, please contact us. You can come to our home in Vail and pick up a large quantity of all types of food every 2 weeks. With this initiative, our goal is to inspire hope and feed the hungry. RFTS has access to many resources, where individuals can become empowered and gain the confidence to fulfill their potential.
22,428 meals served in December! We need your extra food to help sustain these numbers & help these families!
Monthly stargazing & monthly solar (daytime) events:
Bringing the universe to your area! We have some amazing telescopes that can pinpoint over 55,000 objects in the night sky in an attempt to inspire you through hard times. We will teach you to control these computerized systems, all while spreading awareness of what is happening within the community. Join us at our next event, found in our events tab.
We also donate telescopes to kids in low income families every month! This is an essential part of the astronomy program, and it brings so much joy, wonder and education to those who would usually not be able to receive a telescope.
Please consider donating to support this cause! Every $50 pays for one quality telescope.
With our community and mission always in mind, we strive to find new strategies for dealing with homelessness. We need to have each others back. For the homeless, it's rare for them to see genuine kindness. To begin, we fill backpacks with first aid supplies, water, snacks, clothing, Naloxone kits, hygiene products and our laminated resource list, giving them a fresh start and the relief they need to sleep at night, prepping for the next day. Our main goal in this program is to build rapport with them over time, so that when they are ready to use the resource list provided, we are there to assist them in "Reaching for the Stars."
Each night in the United States, 49 million people go to bed hungry.
An additional 6.9 million families live on the verge of food insecurity. That means they don’t always know where their next meal is coming from...
